Give and Grow

Kit Directions

Step 1
Place "Log" in refrigerator for 8-12 Hrs. Remove

Step 2
Make four 1/4" slits on the front surface of "Log" about 2 inches apart. ( -    -   -   - )

Step 3

Lay the "Log" into cello-bag or "grow" bag which will act as a humidity tent.
Mist the interior surface of cello/grow bag 2 to 3 times daily and leave it open
Do not water the mushrooms, but maintain moisture/humidity.

Step 4
Put in a place where it will get indirect sunlight

Step 5
Harvest Mushrooms when caps are large and flat, prior to curling. Usually 5-7 days of growth.
Rinse out cello/grow bag, and wash off  "Log" with  dish soap and cold water after harvest

Step 6
Place 4 new slits on opposite side of original slits and set back up for another crop. The log will be dormant for 10 days and will then begin the new cycle.  (no need to place in refrigerator)
Maintain humidity.

To extend the life of the "Log" and for additional crops follow these simple instructions.
After your 1st harvest,
Rinse out cello/grow bag, and wash off  "Log" with  dish soap and cold water.(Do not take the original plastic bag off the "log".) Soak in clean cold water for 2hrs and drain excess water out of bag.
Wrap "Log" up in plastic wrap or a couple plastic grocery bags(The original casing bag never comes off), place in refrigerator for a minimum of 21 days. Then set it back up for another crop. It will take several days for the "Log" to warm back up before it will fruit mushrooms. Continue this procedure for 6-9 months or until it will no longer fruit out.

Growing Conditions:

  • Light: Oyster mushrooms require an average of 8 to 12 hours of daily light to grow.  Place kit in well lit area avoiding direct sunlight.
  • Water: Mushrooms are 90-95% water. Therefore, it is important to use mist spray bottle and provide constant humidity.  The cellophane bag helps to provide a ‘humidity tent‘.  Avoid water pooling on the inside bottom of the cellophane bag more than 1/4” prior to the pinning stage.  Large amounts of standing water encourages contaminants and rotting of the substrate bag.
  • Temperature: Kit will grow in range of 55-78F.  Best results between 60-68F
  • Fruit Body Harvest: Mushroom pins will develop and push out of the bag approximately 3 days after substrate bag has been removed from refrigerator.  Fruit bodies will mature in 5 to 7 days after pinning and will then be ready to pick.  Pick all mushrooms in 1 harvest.  This is done by holding mushroom stem at base near bag and twist until free.  Cutting mature mushrooms at the base will leave an area that can rot and inhibit the future growth of “second flush” of mushrooms.  At this time all of the aborted mushrooms should also be picked and discarded.
  • About the aborted mushroom pins:  In the initial pinning stages, the mycelium searches for every opening to develop to the adult stage.  After a few days of mushroom pinning, some mushrooms will abort their growth process to ensure survival for other groups to fully mature to the adult stage.  Leave these undeveloped baby mushrooms in place until the mature adult fruit is harvested.
